My wife and I are a team and have of ton of family support - these are our helpers.  I can't say just how much having them has helped us grow our business.  We have gotten a ton of referrals and with where they're located  it gives us a presence in NY & CT - since we are already in NJ.

Some tips that works for us  aside from samples,  is discounting (it is huge).  When you're starting out it's difficult since you're earning level is usually 20% - but we have found that it makes a difference with a customer.  While Avon prices may be much less than going to the mall, and buying super high priced skincare - Avon still can be costly.  So, that is why we can't emphasize enough how discounting has been AMAZING for us - and helps to put together a nice Skincare regimen.  Start with a regimen Day/Night Cream (maybe a cleanser), and work into maybe a  Serum...then, Clinical products (if needed) etc....   Work into building a system - don't want to overwhlem and you don't want to discourage by too high a price tag immediately.  Let them use the product, and see if they even like - then, maybe time to sample some more.  You never want to be pushy.

The goal (which having is essential)  was not only to sell with a quick hit, but to customers coming back.  We tried to get most of our customers on a skincare regimen...makeup.... Products that you can build on, and have them return.  Once we did that (takes time) we could offer other products, often a fragrance.  Also, never underestimate when a woman gets hooked on a certain makeup, lipstick...etc. you'll have a repeat customer (when they like/buy certain product - offer samples in the same vein).  Try and listen to what they want instead of just selling.  You find not only do they like the fact that someone is listening - most people don't like to be pushed into something. One other thing, if they like the product and you build a relationship - chances are they'll refer their family and friends.  It has been key for us.

One way we go about purchasing our product is buying with the intent to sell.  When Avon offers a sale on Skincare, etc... we'll purchase / stock up and offer to our customers with a discount and a nice profit for us.  Also, I like to have it on hand so I can give to our family helpers to fill their orders.  Also, take advantage of Demos - they can be invaluable (also, can be a nice profit).  As said, not so easy when you're first starting, but you have to work into.  We were not always in the position we're in now.

While doing all of this we are also building our Avon website - once someone signs up and buys - we send out a thank you and offer a discount on future purchases.  Also, we'll ask if that person would like to sample a product.  Being involved with your customers - personalizing as if you are their consultant/advisor (offer info/opinions -but, we always say we're not experts)  can be a powerful tool.  It doesn't  happen immediate, but be consistent.  If it doesn't work the first time or second...don't give up.

Now, in addition to the above we are working on listing on Free Sites.  We google search Free Listing / Classified sites that you can list that you're an Avon Independent Sales Rep - try to find some that have lots of traffic.  We separate into local (advertising in NJ) so if someone is interested we are in driving distance (unless they'd rather order from the Avon website).  Then, we also advertise out of state to sign up on the Avon website, and also state in the listing that we are offering a discount on their order.  We always leave contact info just in case - also, always be cautious when you're dealing with someone online.

So, in answer to your question - we are Full Time with much built in Family Support as our helpers.  Right now, we work 7 days a week.  Results are a powerful incentive.  As you well know it doesn't happen overnight, but if you stay committed it will happen.

It may be an overused concept, but it really makes all the difference to set goals...no matter how small at first.

Again, thanks so much for all your emails - and especially this one.

I do not currently sell Avon full time but if I can in the future I would like to quit one of my two other jobs so I can devote more time to AVON. I have asked for Monday afternoon off so that I can devote that time to Avon.

I try to have all my books ready and I have a route I take to give out my books. (I order 120
brochures and could really order more.) I staple a call back note in each book (and samples if I have them) also any sales material for my customers.

So far it has been a lot of word from other people that keeps me going.

My daughter Sonja and is a helper of mine and takes a few brochures to work. My mother also helps be by taking a few brochures to the Senior Center.

On the following Monday I give out the orders and collect the money. At this time I get their orders if they have not called me. I do not like to pressure my customers, I like to give them time to look the book over good and call me if they need something. So far this has worked out good for me.

I sometimes think I would like to give up but I am having fun and love serving my customers.

Thanks again,
